OCR/scanning for Aramaic, Hebrew, etc.

Has anyone had any luck with certain OCR programs to scan and transcribe (electronically) Aramaic, Hebrew or Syriac? I have some very old Aramaic, Hebrew and Ladino books and some manuscripts that would be good to have in text/html format online and this is the only way I know how to do it to have it in text format besides hand typing it. <!-- s --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/sad.gif" alt="" title="Sad" /><!-- s -->

Eventually I would like to scan my step grandmother's Yiddish Bible into text because it has tons of Aramaic reference notes in the margins. It looks like the Yiddish text follows an older form instead of the structure of the modern text.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I wish - that would be great. Some OCR company would have to map these symbols to a standard Aramaic script. Shouldn't be too hard to do as I'm sure it exists for Hebrew....

That's what I was afraid of. I found one for complex Hebrew text that I might try or I can find someone to transcribe it. I'm getting myself into too many projects at one time all of a sudden. <!-- s --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/blush.gif" alt="" title="Blush" /><!-- s --> I might just scan evertything as images for now and when things settle down I can do the typing.

Is this specifically for a Windows operating system or do you know if it works with other operating systems?
