Matthew 9:36
#1
Shlama Akhay,

George Berry's translation of Matthew 9:36 in his Greek-English Interlinear is as follows: "And having seen the crowds he was moved with compassion for them, because they were wearied and cast away as sheep not having a shepherd."
The word he has translated 'wearied' is ??klelum™noi
He mentions a variant in his footnotes. Some texts have ??skulm™noi which Berry defines as 'harassed.' This word is from sk??llw which Thayer defines as follows: 1) to skin, flay
2) to rend, mangle
2a) to vex, trouble, annoy
2b) to give one’s self trouble, trouble one’s self

In akhan Paul's Aram.-Eng. Interlinear he translates wwh Ny0ld as 'that they weary were.' The root of Ny0ld is 00l
Apparently some Greek copyists mistook the Peal verbal conjugation (which the Peshitta text contains) for the Aphel verbal conjugation of 00l which means to weary, fatigue, trouble, according to Smith's Compendious.
That would explain why some Greeks chose 'weary' and some leaned more towards the 'harassed / vexed / troubled' theme.
