The eye
#4
Yochanan Wrote:Hi akhi,

The eye could be seen as our perception...how we see things. If it is clear (allowing light) then we are without guile or prejudice...rare indeed! The body is what we accumulate our perception into... heart, mind, bowels (of mercy) etc. and what we act out of...which either defiles us... or honours us.

This could also relate to a shepherd (under-shepherd) and the flock in his care. As in ...the blind leading the blind....or ....a teacher of righteousness who sees the way.

Shlama,

Yochanan

What if one's eye is full of darkness? How then is it possible for his or her eye to be full of light? And what of the oil in the lamp which serves to illuminate? Is this oil a metaphor for the Law or one's strict adherence to the Law? Is it Love?

Shlama,

bar Khela

quote="bar_khela"]"The lamp of the body is the eye. If your eye is good your whole body will be full of light. But if it is bad your whole body will be full of darkness. If the light in you is darkness, how great is that darkness."

What is meant by "the eye?" And what is meant by the body? How can the goodness of "the eye" make the body radiant? Is this radiance physical since the body is presumably physical?

???Do not give up, for that is ignorance and not according to the rules of this art... Like the lover, you cannot hope to achieve success without infinite perseverance.???
