Ephraim (306-373)

"Matthew wrote the gospel in Hebrew, Mark in Latin from Simon in the city of Rome, Luke in Greek, John (at last) wrote it because he lasted in the world until the time of Trajan."

"It is certain, however, that while he lived he was very influential among the Syrian Christians of Edessa, and that his memory was revered by all, Orthodox, Monophysites, and Nestorians. They call him the "sun of the Syrians," the "column of the Church", the "harp of the Holy Spirit"."

But, I think he was more a part of the branch that would eventually produce the Peshitto than the CoE, because:

"Ephraem was instructed in the Christian mysteries by St. James, the famous Bishop of Nisibis..."

"When this town was conquered by the Persians Bishop James moved his whole diocese west to Edessa under Roman rule and influence of Antioch. As far as we know Bishop James was thoroughly orthodox in his theology, attended the Council of Nicaea and remained bishop till he died in 338."

Now, if Bishop James and Ephraim were more CoE influenced wouldn't they have stayed in Nisbis or gone deeper in Persia instead of moving to the Roman Empire?

Yeeeup.

These men are part of the heritage of the Roman church, not the Persian.
