Paul Younan "Major blunder in Acts 5:13!"

Quote:Shlama Akhay,

The Aramaic verbal root Brq has a variety of shades of meaning, including:

* draw near

* join

* touch

* offer

* fight

In the Greek of Acts 5:13, we read with astonishment:

"And no one dared to join them, but the people magnified them."

The Aramaic word used here in the Peshitta (Brqtn) is drawn from the above root.

Obviously, the meaning of the verse in the Greek versions is destroyed because the Greek versions chose the wrong shade of meaning.

This verse should be translated:

"And no one dared to touch them, but the people magnified them."

It is a ridiculous statement that nobody dared to join them. People were "joining" them left-and-right as the immediately following verses testify.

Additionally, Luke uses a word-play between the two roots Brq (Qarab, "touch") and Bry (Yarab, "magnify").
