1st Cor. 12:24

Shlama Akhay,

Here's another one of those "We Report, You Decide" type of mistranslations. A Greek primacist would try to tell us that the Arameans mistranslated this verse. <!-- sRolleyes --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/rolleyes.gif" alt="Rolleyes" title="Roll Eyes" /><!-- sRolleyes -->

Quote:Shlama Akhay,

In this comparison study of 1 Cor. 12:24, I'll use the ASV and the English portion of the Interlinear Greek N. T. based on the Byz./Maj. and Lamsa and Murdock's translations from Aramaic.

(English portion of Int. G. N. T.) "But the comely parts of us NO NEED HAVE. But God tempered together the body, to that being deficient more abundant having given honour,..."

(ASV) "...whereas our comely parts HAVE NO NEED: but God tempered the body together, giving more abundant honor to that part which lacked; "

(Murdock) "For the honorable members in us, HAVE NO NEED OF HONOR: for God hath tempered the body, and given more honor to the member which is inferior;"

(Lamsa) "For our comely parts HAVE NO NEED FOR ATTENTION. But God has so tempered the body together, and has given greater honor to the member which is inferior,..."

The Greek rendering "have no need" seems to border on cold indifference for a person's overall welfare, while the Aramaic "have no need of honor," (Murdock), or "have no need of attention," (Lamsa), continues the theme at hand, namely, 'honor.' After all, everyone, regardless of status, has needs of one sort or another.
