Is Old Syriac just the 4 books, the Gospels?

That seems to be what I hear. Is that it, just 4 books?

Yes - and even the 4 books are like swiss cheese.

And don't let anyone fool you - the Cureton and the Sinaitic (the scratched-off one) are not the same version. Even though both are classified under the generic umbrella-title "Old Syriac."

They don't even agree with one another.

Do you have a general article debunking Old Scratch?

Trimm has a whole chapter on Peshitta <!-- s:angry: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry.gif" alt=":angry:" title="Angry" /><!-- s:angry: -->

If OS is only the Gospels, what did Trimm use for the extraGospular books in his HRV?

The Peshitta.....of course, when it suits his purpose it's ok to use it. <!-- s:angry: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry.gif" alt=":angry:" title="Angry" /><!-- s:angry: -->

No, but we can make one very easily.

Trimm's chapter on the Peshitta is pure junk - remember his so-called "Khad" Semiticism? (See the Old Scratch forum)

All the other "proofs" he has on the chapter are of the same caliber - it really shows that he doesn't know a thing about Aramaic!

How embarrassing! This man, nothing embarasses him....I swear.

Just as I thought! <!-- s:angry: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry.gif" alt=":angry:" title="Angry" /><!-- s:angry: -->

He spends his time bagging out the Peshitta, and promoting his Old Syriac, when most of his HRV is translated form the Peshitta!

That is not cool <!-- s:onfire: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/onfire.gif" alt=":onfire:" title="On Fire" /><!-- s:onfire: -->

And why does he use Old Scratch when he believes that the Hebrew mss are the original of Matthew? Does this guy just choose what he wants from a number of different Bibles?

Hi, lets try the new forum :-)

Even worse, Trimm took the AEINT translation from the Way International as the base
underlying text, he simply did not do the translation fresh (despite his claims).

And that answers the question about why he used the same Peshitta text he attacked,
the Peshitta (English) version used is not readily available commercially, in fact few
people have it at all.

(He then updated some of the AEINT verrses from an Old Syriac source.. an enterprising
scholar might do some detective work on that ).

-----
Here is the starting point on the information..
I strongly suggest you look at some of the five chapters that are side-by-side.

First the Hebrew Roots Version (HRV) was shown to be very close to the
Aramaic-English Interlinear New Testament by the Way International

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.lebtahor.com/truth/trimm/plagiarisms/hrvpage.htm">http://www.lebtahor.com/truth/trimm/pla ... rvpage.htm</a><!-- m -->
Gives some background, including the methodology of using a base English
text and modifying, discussed by James Trimm (Rabbi Yossef) vis a vis a
Jewish Book of Morman project he had been planning

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.lebtahor.com/truth/trimm/plagiarisms/mark.htm">http://www.lebtahor.com/truth/trimm/pla ... s/mark.htm</a><!-- m -->
Shows Mark chapters 1-4 of the HRV and the AEINT side-by-side

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.lebtahor.com/truth/trimm/plagiarisms/luke.htm">http://www.lebtahor.com/truth/trimm/pla ... s/luke.htm</a><!-- m -->
Luke 1 similarly side-by-side

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.lebtahor.com/truth/trimm/plagiarisms/hrvtitlepg.jpg">http://www.lebtahor.com/truth/trimm/pla ... itlepg.jpg</a><!-- m -->
"translated by James S. Trimm"

This helps explain why Trimm would 'combine' such oddball, incompatible
texts (like the DuTillet Matthew and the OS) -- sometimes it is just
a matter of convenience. Amd then the theories are developed to
justify the marketeering.

Meanwhile, James Trimm continues to cause tremendous damage both to the
Aramaic Bible community and the Messianic/'Nazarene' community.

While Trimm may have originally brought attention to some of the
Aramaic issues (and you miight want to give him a little pass because
of this) .. the ethical issues, like above, are far more significant that
any of the textual issues.. even the junque like khad semitisims and
the DuTillet Matthew or pushing the OS.

Integrity first.
