Acts 3:20
#1
Shlama Akhay,

The only reason I could find for the differing Greek texts in Acts 3:20 is in CAL's entries for 'Tyb' and 'kTyb'.
The actual word in the Peshitta text that Zorba and his buddies handled two different ways is By=md which the SEDRA lexicon defines as 'ready'. To see how CAL's 'Tyb' and 'kTyb' (or a derivative thereof) were confused, here's one of my old posts---

Quote:Shlama Akhay,

I may have discovered why the Textus Receptus has 'before was preached' in Acts 3:20 and several other standard editions have 'was appointed beforehand.' Here's the info from the CAL site.

kTyb N
1 Syr preacher

Tyb V
021 Syr to prepare
022 Syr to destine
023 Syr to produce
051 Syr to prepare oneself
052 Syr to be present
053 Syr %b% to take part
054 Syr to happen to
055 Syr to hurry

Acts 3:20. Read "was appointed beforehand" instead of "before was preached" and render 'send Christ Jesus, who was appointed beforehand for you' or 'send him who was appointed beforehand for you Christ, Jesus'. G L T Tr A W WH N NA HF

The Greek word in the Textus Receptus is prokekjrugmenon
04296: 4296 προκηρυσσω prokerusso prok-ay-rooce'-so

1) to announce or proclaim; be herald beforehand
2) to announce beforehand (of the herald himself)
(Thayer)

The Greek word in the other texts is prokeceirismenon
4400 προχειριζομαι procheirizomai prokh-i-rid'-zom-ahee

1) to put into the hand, to deliver into the hands
2) to take into one's hands
3) to set before one's self, to prostrate, to determine
4) to choose, to appoint
4a) for one's use

4b) for one's salvation
(Thayer)
