As I mentioned to the respondent in the discussion when this came up, I'm having trouble finding any clear scriptural proof or examples of numeric gematria being used or validated as biblically-endorsed hermeneutics.
Irenaeus gives some personal extra-biblical considerations using it but he also points to this method being problematic and says, "It is therefore more certain, and less hazardous, to await the fulfillment of the prophecy, than to be making surmises, and casting about for any names that may present themselves, inasmuch as many names can be found possessing the number mentioned" [emphasis mine]. This is not to mention other aspects of the prophecies any proposed candidates have failed to fulfill, but that's a separate issue.
Do you know of any biblical examples for using numerical gematria?
