What does a bishop do?
#1
A true Bishop is called to be as the Apostles were called to be, and to do what they did. They being their successors down through the generations. The word means "an overseer".

The closest thing that is found in some Protestant groups, is a district pastor, which is placed over a number of churches and the regular pastors who minister there, by the President and his Pastoral board of directors.

The President seen in the Protestant denominations to some extent functioning as would The Pope (Catholic Church/Coptic Church), The Patriarch (Greek Orthodox Church), or The Catholicos (The Church of the East) is in the big branches of Christianity.

A Bishop can ordain and take away the ordination of those placed under their governance, and the head Bishop, can do the same to the other Bishops as well.
