Mk 1:40 GABRA-GARBA
Shlama lekoulkun!
I???m ???almost??? sure (you tell me...) that there???s a play on words in this verse with the lexeme 0brg (LEPER/LEPROSY), taking advantage of its resemblance with the word 0rbg (MAN: only matter of switching letters!). There are plenty of these pans in the Hebrew OT.
In the Lk 8:12 parallel, that implicit Mk???s pan becomes explicit:
0brg hlk fmd 0rbg
MAN which [was] full all-him [with] LEPROSY
Beatiful: the related words in both extremes of the phrase!
Zorba is thousands years-light far (even if his translation is OK):
anjr pljrjv leprav
And there???s more:
0ybrg (north and it???s relative 0yybrg northern) are very similar words to 0brg also and probably it would remind SAMARIA/SAMARIANS (The Kingdom of the North), considering that Samarians (= foreigners) where equated with lepers in the sense of being considered ???impures??? (Cf. a lot of texts about this, but specially Lk 17:11-19, the Ten Lepers, with the SAMARIAN included, the only one fully ???healed??? by his faith, in contrast with the remaining 9 ???Law full-fillers???: Is here a subtle narrative version of Paulist theme of the ???Justification by Faith????).
There???s another interesting issue with this word 0brg ; See:
S. Carusso, <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://aramaicnt.tripod.com/HTML/MARK/evidences/Simon.html">http://aramaicnt.tripod.com/HTML/MARK/e ... Simon.html</a><!-- m -->.
Hey Thadman, you should post it here (or better in ???polysemic/split-words??? section)!
