Lk 2:49 DBAYT ABY

Lk 2:49 DBAYT ABY
SHLAMA!
BTW, in relation with ???bayt???, let???s see this in Lk 2:49:

Peshitta: 0wh0d Yl fw Yb0 tybd Jwtn0 Ny9dy f ...
KJV ... wist ye not that I must be about my Father's BUSINESS?

NIV ..."Didn't you know I had to be in my Father's HOUSE?"

FBJ ... Ne saviez-vous pas que je dois ??tre dans la MAISON de mon P??re ? "
NB. That???s the French Jerusalem Bible. In the Spanish version (last Ed.) there???s a note: ???Others translate ???in the things of my Father??????, but without any explanation.

GNT ...ouk jdeite oti en toiv tou patrov mou dei einai me?
Don???t you know that in these [things: en toiv neutral plural] of my Father I should be?
NB.: Variants in NA: NONE (!).

HNT yb' tybb twyl ylv yk ??tvdy 'l ...

VUL ...nesciebatis quia in his quae Patris mei sunt oportet me esse
NB. ???In his??? (neutral plural, as in Greek = in these [things, matters]).

LBA ...??Acaso no sab??ais que me era necesario estar en la CASA de mi Padre?

Peshitta Forum Interlinear: ???...In the HOUSE of my Father???

Just for curiosity: CUV (Chinese Union Version, 1919): Zai wo fu de JIA li: In(side) my Father???s HOUSE... (NB. As ???Bayt??? in Heb/Aram, JIA (pron. ???chia???) has the doble sense: house-building/ house-family).

So, KJV and VUL among others coincide with GNT... The other versions (house), where they could come from? Since its supposed that all modern NT translations come from the ???Original language??? (i.e.: Greek :-)) as pompously stated in their ???first page???? And there aren???t variants on the Greek...

Considering that there???s a d (relative) instead of b (in), and in view of the ambiguity of tyb , wouldn???t be acceptable also in Aramaic the translation ???in my Father???s business???? (Oh, I don???t like that of ???business???), or perhaps something like: ???in my Father???s affairs??? (= AMONG that, those [matters, things, affairs] of my Father)?, Therefore, is Zorba???s version OK? (Nice kid!) As a matter of fact, both translations are theologically admissible, I think: In any case the clear statement is Jesus??? early awareness of not being ???Pswy rb ???.
Anyway, the point here is this ambiguity confusing Zorba... and others (Or, did he/them bat a hit in this particular case?).

Jwklk tybb Fxrbw 0ml4 ;-)
Ab. Valentin

PS. TO AKHI PAUL: The final phrase: 0wh0d Yl fw . You translated it as ???...that is necessary for me to be...??? (Murdock: ???...that it behooveth me to be in my Father's HOUSE????). It???s evidently some Aramaic idiom that scapes from my literal comprehension (lit: ???and NOT for me to be...????). I know that (as in Hebrew), the combination of ???To be??? + ???Lammad(+pers. pron)??? = belong (to be for), but this previous ???WLA??? is that confuses me! I guess that it has to be with the first ???LA???: 1) DON???T you know that [???d???: this is, implicit] My Father???s house/matters... 2) and SHOULDN???T be necessary for me to be [here]? Or even: 2) and SHOULDN???T be mine [as well]? I???ll appreciate your kind ???free Aramaic lesson???... and others will too, I???m sure.

I really want to be wrong here, but unfortunately I don't think ths is a valid split word, particularly in terms of Greek varants. Most say "house" while the KJV and it's money-making modern versions say something like "business". This seems to be mistranslation of the Greek, rather than variants in Greek.

As you noted, there seems to be no variant in the Greek mss of this.

The Greek for KJV is probably rendered better "I was about my Father's" and many think that "my Father's house" is a better rendering of "en mou bo pater" as in TR text.

No Greek variant ;( I was so excited...

Don't be discouraged, go and gather ye all the split words you can find

Actually, in a way, it is a split word. It PROVES that the various English versions stemmed from the Greek
