Lord's Prayer in "Argo" film?
#1
Seeing this number of people interested in Aramaic language is truly interesting.

I could not find the right place to ask this question, but I have recently watched Ben Affleck's "Argo" about the rescue operations of some American embassy employees in Tehran back in 1979.
Right before the escape operation, one could hear an oriental voice reciting some words.
I've been told it is the Lord's prayer "Aboun Beshmaya" in Aramaic.

Is that true? and what's the relation?
Could it be a mistake by the film maker who thought they speak Aramaic in Persia?!
Any ideas?

DOn't know. Maybe you can find the fragment, but Persia was the country that made Aramaic common language.
And if the prayer is Christian, I would expect the prayer to be Aramaic rather than Greek for instance <!-- sSmile --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smile.gif" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /><!-- sSmile -->

It did sound like the "Model" prayer in Aramaic... and yes, Persia is a very Aramaic place, and was. This is why parts of Daniel are in Aramaic.

Aramaic is very much alive in Persia today, especially in the Urmi region and in major cities like Tehran.

The current Patriarch of the CoE, HH Mar Dinkha, was previously the Bishop of Iran.

Just saw the movie. Yes, that was the Lord's Prayer in Aramaic - I was blown away by that as well. Very well sung. Not sure what it had to do with the movie or why they chose to stick in in?
