Yukhanan 1:18
#1
Shlama Akhay,

Here is an example of an Antithetic Parallelism from the prologue in Yukhanan's Gospel.

Quote:"No man has ever seen God, The only-Begotten, who is in the Bosom of the Father, he has declared him."

Shalom, my name is Yejezquel, I want to know if someone can tell me if Yojan??n 1:18 can be translated like this:

No man has seen the Father at any time; the only brought forth Son, who WAS in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

I want to know if you can translate it from the Aramaic as: "WAS in the bosom" and not "IS in the bosom".

Thank you and shalom in Yahshua HaMoshiach!!

Hi,

I'm no Aramaic reader, but the verb that you refer to, is in 'substantive' form according to <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.dukhrana.com/peshitta/analyze_verse.php?verse=John+1:18&font=Estrangelo+Edessa&size=150">http://www.dukhrana.com/peshitta/analyz ... a&size=150</a><!-- m -->%

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verbal_noun">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verbal_noun</a><!-- m -->

So, in my understanding, it could mean there is no 'time' in it.

However, it is, I think, not important which time it is. It is important that Jesus and the bossom (deep friendship) of God are together, always.
