And here is the flag itself

Here is where the sun/star comes from-shamash/chemosh the false sun god of the Baylonians

The other image on the flag comes from this image, which is said here to be of shamash as well...but I think it is of ashur the false god of ancient Assyria.

Online there is an explination of the flag and a bit of its history.

Akhi Chuck,

Unfortunately most Assyrians are not aware of the symbolism and haven't taken the time to research it. They are completely clueless. It really is a textbook epiphany they have when you explain it to them.

As for those who do know, I've found that they adhere to one of two mindsets: (a) They are truly not Christian anyway, and could care less, or (b) They try to somehow reconcile the two by claiming that the Assyrians of old worshiped the true God, but they called him "Ashur." I know many people in both categories, and it's becoming a constant struggle with this most unfortunate of designs that particular political party chose back in the 60s.

There are those of us who are working to eliminate it from the areas within the Church, and if possible from people's lives entirely. I'd much rather have statues of Mary and icons of Saints in the Church, than this. (and we don't even allow those!)

When you notice this flag in a parish please bring it to my attention, and I can contact the people necessary to talk to them about it.
