A passage that needs explaining..
#1
Hi I'm new to the board and I have a really simple question to ask about a passage in the Book of Wisdom. The passage is as follows:

Quote:26 That your sons whom you loved might learn, O LORD, that it is not the various kinds of fruits that nourish man, but it is your word that preserves those who believe you! 27 For what was not destroyed by fire, when merely warmed by a momentary sunbeam, melted; 28 So that men might know that one must give you thanks before the sunrise, and turn to you at daybreak. 29 For the hope of the ingrate melts like a wintry frost and runs off like useless water.

In verse 26, could this be connected to Matthew 4: 4 Jesus answered, ?It is written: ?Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."

and also verses 28 "So that men might know that one must give you thanks before the sunrise, and turn to you at daybreak." Are the prayers: (or how it lists "give you thanks before..) referring to the Morning (shaharit), afternoon (minha) and evening (arvit or maariv). Abraham in the morning (Gen19:27), Isaac at dusk (Gen24:63) and Jacob in the evening (Gen28:10).. .

Is sunrise - Shaharit (Shacharis [morning]) and the daybreak Amidah at daybreak ([Psalms 72.5] "Those that fear You "come" with the sun". So what is considered sunrise and daybreak? What i understood is that Daybreak is when a small part of the sun very gradually begins to brighten... and sunrise - Sunrise is calculated as being one hour before the whole of the sun rises over the earth [i.e. above the horizon]..

Please explain - Thank you

Regarding the first part of the post, both of these passages are based upon Deuteronomy 8:3, with the quote by Yeshua being a word-for-word and the pseudepigraph being a paraphrase of the idea.
