Romans 8:28
#1
These two verses in Greek and Aramaic quite differ but is somebody able to see why they differ?

(B.t.w. the greek translations to English also have big variances)

Etheridge
"BUT we know that those who love Aloha, in every thing he helpeth them for good; them whom he set before that they might be called."

KJV
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose"

I would like to stress 'things'.
In Aramaic Romans 8:28 there seems to be no word in this verse, that looks like 'things' (Seb-wat-a)

Is this a typical example of tampering with scripture or a misreading from Aramaic.

(b.t.w. the Greek version 'all things work together' is rather cryptic, and 'universal' without mentioning -who makes- all things work)

Shlama,

As you said the Greek and English have big differences. It looks like that is where all the confusion lies. The KJV has some more idomatic English. The Greek and Aramaic are quite close. Actually nearly word-for-word the same, even in the same word order.

The Aramaic word in play here, actually two words, is (B:KuL MeDeM), "in each matter".

Translators will typically use "anything" "something" "everything" "all things" "nothing", etc for the various one and two word patterns of (MeDeM).
