When Paul founded Christianity in the city of Antioch, he was no longer a Jew. He had converted to his own system of beliefs. (Acts 11:26) Judaism is not a race that one cannot cease belonging to it. There is more than one way to lose one's Jewishness. One of them is to confess loyalty to another religion.

According to traditional understandings of what it means to be "Jewish" it is a combination of religion and ethnicity.
