Rabbi or Teacher?
#1
Here's all of the translations between teacher and rabbi between Aramaic and Greek manuscripts.
Discourse on two elements which are highlighted in green follows:
rabbi=>rabbouni (Mark 10:51) is a greatly unexpected increase in resolution (I'd expect the reciprocal to occur)
rabbuli=>rabbouni (John 20:16) is an outright strange disconnect between Aramaic and Greek. There are two possible explanations for the divergence here: (1) Rabbouni is the Greek transliteration of the Hebrew rabbuni (which begs the question, from whence cometh this?). (2) The translator misread the Lamed as a Nun.

Overall it seems as though malpana is always rendered as teacher (didaskal???) 39 times whereas rabbi is rendered the same 18 times, with the other 17 being transliterated.

Hi I am not an aramiac scholar but is there a separation between wisedom and holiness ? If one teaches at a university one could be called a professor but if one teaches at a church a person is called reverend. From a simplicity angle it is appealing refer Deut 30 and Matt 5. If one is a teacher our message is obvious and maybe that is what they are driving at. but hey I aint no scholar so forgive me and I appreciate your thoughts. Trevor
