Eternal life is something you possess. You can feel it. You know you have it. It is a state of life of consciousness, of mind, of being. When you have it you know it because life is different.
When you are harbouring hatred in your heart YOU DO NOT POSSESS IT! It is that simple!

14We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in death. 15Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life in him.

I'm not using faith, I'm using the inspired text of the faith written by a student of the Master of the faith. Now rather than being neck-in-neck, I'd like to explain how I see it: eternal life in this context is defined as life without end. Please don't capitalize logic to try to promote it as the best virtue and goal of life. You ought to give the Scriptures some voice in discourse.
