What's the best version of the peshitta in Swadaya script?
#1
Shlama,

I would like to know where one can acquire the most accurate edition of Peshitta NT in Swadaya script. I'm also curious if there is a version of the Peshitta Old Testament in Neo-Assyrian in Swadaya script.

I did try running a search thru the forum to see if someone else had asked this, cause I don't want to ask annoying questions, but i couldn't find my answer.

Thanks.

David.

Hi David,

You can obtain a copy from Mar Gewargis Church in Chicago, let me know if you need their phone number.

I really appreciate that... the only thing is I'm not in America, if Mar Gewargis Church is Assyrian Church of the East, then I guess the Assyrian Church of the East here in New Zealand would have the same books?

Or does Mar Gewargis Church have some special books which others don't?

In any event, I really appreciate your advice and the work you've done here.

Sincerely,

David R.

Hey David,

New Zealand's churches should have copies - if not, let me know. We can ship some over there from Mar Gewargis.

PS - are you an Assyrian?

Thanks for the offer.
And no, I'm not Assyrian, though I have a friend who's from Iraq. I've got British & Celtic in me. I just trust the Peshitta heaps. It's proven itself over and over again, and though translations are useful, the original is definitely the best.

Hi Paul,

Could you please provide the phone number (or website if they have one) for the Mar Gewargis Church in Chicago. I am also looking for an Aramaic OT with the Swadaya script and eastern vowels (not Neo-Assyrian). I have one by Wipf and Stock but the writing is just too small. I've also contacted Dean Dana to see if he knew where to get one. He didn't know.

Thanks a lot! <!-- sBig Grin --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/happy.gif" alt="Big Grin" title="Happy" /><!-- sBig Grin -->

Hi John,

The number to Mar Gewargis is: (773) 465-4777

If you call on Sunday, between 11am - 1pm Central time, ask for the "Beth-Deshna" (giftshop), and they will transfer you. Ask them for the NT ancient tongue.

I have to stop over there and pick up a bunch of copies for Dean Dana because I think he has a long waiting list for these on his website.

Another source is:

Check them out, they may have some stock.
