Word-Play in Acts 15??
#1
Shlama,

I???ve been reading thru the book of Acts during my lunchbreak this week, and today the following stuck out at me. I don???t know if this should be considered a word-play or not, so I???m posting it here until further confirmation:

Acts 15:5
Nm wwh wnmyhd Nyly0 04n0 Nyd wwh wmq
Jwkl wh fwd Nyrm0w 04yrpd 0nplwy
Jwr=nd Jwn0 Jwdqptw Jwn0 rzgml
04wmd 0swmn

Compare to Kepha???s declaration a few lines later in verse 9:

L=m Jwhlw Nynyb $rp f Mdmw
Jwhtwbl Fwnmyhb Ykdd

It appeared to me that Kepha???s remark was directly pointed at the Pharisees with his particular usage of the word ???parash.??? In effect, it seems he was playing on their choice to separate themselves from the common Jewish man by their pious traditions in contrast to the giving of the Spirit to the Gentiles, who didn???t even have the Torah in the first place, much less pious traditions invented to elevate themselves over their countrymen.

Or in other words, the Spirit did not make Pharisees from Jew or Gentile!

Thoughts?
