Mari/PEACE out this month!
#1
Shlama all--

The very first copies of Mari/PEACE will be rolling off of the digital presses early next week! These however are preview copies for Baruch, Shali and myself, lacking only the final cover stamping. Do not fret however because after this very brief stage, proofing the physical copy, we will have the FINAL COPIES for sale about 10 days after that, so in this month. It could even be sooner, but don't hold me to it. Final price still not fixed but under $60.

Also please pray for me a I am recuperating from a broken knee. I will be convalescing for about 3 months, but my doctor's appointment is next week so I will have a better idea then.

Dear Andrew,

Shabbat Shalom!

You remember that I broke my tibia plateau (where the knee and leg join together), 10 operations, 4 external fixators, an MRSA infection.

In a wheel chair for a year, literally hundreds of hours of physical therapy till I walked again. After they told me that I probably would never walk again. NOT!

How bad is this broken knee?

I might be able to suggest ways of dealing with it all, are you currently in a lot of pain?

You can write me at: <!-- e --><a href="mailto:red_panda@hushmail.com">red_panda@hushmail.com</a><!-- e -->

Or at: <!-- e --><a href="mailto:aramaic_albion@hotmail.com">aramaic_albion@hotmail.com</a><!-- e -->

You need to take really good care of that knee Andrew.

How might this have happened, if you'd not mind me asking?

I'm VERY excited by Mari/P.E.A.C.E., don't get me wrong, but I'm MORE concerned about your knee right now.

I read that you broke your knee and it was as though I went through it all again myself!

Please let me know what your Doctor says. I'm praying for you!

Your Brother in Messiah, Albion

Shlama Akhi Albion,

Technically, it is a fracture of the tibia plateau but I avoided surgery as the surface was not dented more than 1mm--very lucky. I should be recovered in 3 months. I may be able to put some weight on it in a few weeks. But the good news is I am getting lots of physical therapy, I am eating better and my diabetes is getting under control. I am losing weight which is definitely helping me.

I injured myself in a softball game. I ran hard with all my strength to first base and then I went flying having tripped on a divit in the ground, and then my 250 lb frame came squarely down on my knee. I am in a long term care facility right now and it is uncetain when I will go back home. I have at my apt 3 flights of stair and a weak right shoulder from a previous injury to contend with. There will be no long term wheelchair for me, but I am now prone to arthritis down the road in that knee.

Pain is for the moment minimal. My knee may be broken but my spirit remains strong and Mari is now completed.

Shlama all--

More news on the Mari/PEACE front. Don't worry--we are still on track. My publisher is going to try to run the first pre press final review copies tomorrow. My proofreader and I will have the physical copies a few days later, to coincide with my return home from the rehab facility in two days. He has made some new decisions that I think are going to make it even better. To get an idea of what the volume will look like, see this example from JPS: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.jewishpub.org/product.php?isbn=9780827606562">http://www.jewishpub.org/product.php?isbn=9780827606562</a><!-- m -->.

As some of you know, we had long intended to use a laminate cover, 6x9 format. But then we found out that laminate cover can scuff and fade when shipped and we have decided to use a more expensive hard cover (non cloth) process that will increase quality and still keep the unit price in range for all of you. We will also be using heavier, higher quality paper as well. It is an investment in higher quality that Baruch is making out of his own pocket. As I told him tonight, it is easy for me who gets a percentage but doesn't pay for physical production to cheerlead for this but it is a major mitzvah for Baruch to pour all he has on the front end to make this volume the best it can be not just on the inside but in its bindery as well---and just wait until you see the design!

I still believe August is the month for Mari even though we are making these higher and better changes this late in the game. if it goes to September I will say so directly but really all that remains is final approval on the physical copy and we should be able to take orders. Stay tuned.

Shlama all--

About 30 minutes ago, I checked UPS and found they listed Mari/PEACE as "delivered--front door". I looked out of my door (ambled on my walker very slowly) but nothing was there. Now I live on the third floor without an elevator, and going down the stairs on my butt while clutching a walking stick by myself is very dangerous. So, I called my next door neighbor who is a conventional Jewish Conservative and who may or may not know that I am Messianic though we have known each other since 1998, and asked if he could go down the three flights of stairs to see if the package was there. He did, and it was. So other than Baruch and the people he showed his copy to in Canada, that Jewish man, before me or my proofreader Shali, was the first person to physically touch Mari.

The only thing different from this copy and what you may see should you choose to acquire it is how it is bound--mine is in a 3 inch wide looseleaf binder, clearly not ideal for something that you will want to get your fingers on over and over again, but binding is the last step, as I think I mentioned.

As I thumbed through it quickly--the detailed editing having long been completed and really just making sure nothing was out of place--I only found one little format error which I immediately called Baruch about. He is fixing it as I write this to all of you. I will of course double and triple check it but I have already given my approval for the copy to go to final print. Baruch has not told me however exactly when the binding will be completed, only that he has been assured again and again that it will be done "quickly". Obviously when I know the final delivery date, I will post it here! <!-- s8) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/cool.gif" alt="8)" title="Cool" /><!-- s8) -->

Meanwhile, here are some things I can tell you all:

1) Even in looseleaf bindery, Mari/PEACE weighs more than 8 pounds! Baruch's advice: "If you drop it on your knee Andrew you will be totally set back in your recovery!"

2) The volume has 1,048 main pages, not including about 30 pages of intro stuff. Of those 340 pages are materials that FOLLOW the interlinear. I have been saying there were "about 30" essays and such but I was wrong and didn't realize it until I did a rough count of the topics. There are more than 75 instead, so my bad.

3) Revelation, by total coincidence I promise you, actually begins on page 666. Baruch was cracking up when I pointed that out to him, and I wasn't sure exactly how I should feel about it except to tell all of you this upfront, or you won't believe otherwise that such was totally blind luck.

4) Price will be set shortly, but we are still on track with what I said before.

5) You can expect virtually every major aspect of Aramaic NT primacy (Hebrew Matthews, Old Syriac, Greek families, split words, etc) to be discussed in Mari/PEACE in one form or another.

That's all for now. I think my next email wil (hopefully) simply tell you all is ready for final delivery from us to you. Todah rabba for your patience as we complete this monumental project. I can only pray it will be judged worthy by all those who have waited for it for so long.

Shlama Akhi Andrew,

I've done the walker thing....drag. Move all of the kitchen rugs, and bathroom mats! (if you haven't already......so you don't trip on them with your walker).

I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY that Mari/PEACE is almost here!

Wow, The Book of Yohannon's Revelation starts on page 666, talk about a 'co-incidence'!! <!-- sCool --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/cool1.gif" alt="Cool" title="Cool" /><!-- sCool -->

Baruch is RIGHT, don't drop it on your knee! 8 POUNDS, WOW!, I'm very excited, and I've got the money put back already!

Thanks again for letting me have the honor of sharing Matthew's Gospel with folks here at Peshitta.org!

We've waited together my friend, and now the wait is almost over for the rest of us too!

I might add that I bought an ice thing with straps on it (with velcro) for my knee, and used it after doing PT. You just put it into the freezer that let it get almost frozen, and then put it on your knee with a hand towel beneath it (so you don't burn your knee with the cold) & there you go............feels GREAT!!

I encourage you to have your wife buy one for you......a WONDERFUL investment!

I can't wait for Mari!!

Ya'll did GOOD, as we say down South!

THANKS Andrew.

Hi, Andrew!

I've read your two Ruach Qadim books, and I've been looking forward to the availability of your latest work.

I have to admit, when I read that comment about page 666, I laughed aloud. I think it's very humorous, although I do NOT believe in luck. That being said, perhaps you should consider somehow changing that starting page for the benefit of those who may not see the humor. I know a fella who received $6.66 in change at McDonald's, and he was so upset that he could not eat what he had purchased! Someone like that might view that starting page number as evidence that yours is the work of "the Beast" ("Whoa! That book about 'the Beast' starts with his number!"). Food for thought... <!-- sWink --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/wink1.gif" alt="Wink" title="Wink" /><!-- sWink -->

By the way, I should mention that you and Paul have handled certain recent exchanges very well. I'm not sure I would have done so well.

Thank you, Andrew!

"666" Ha, ha, that's real funny. But I don't think that's a bad sign, perhaps Mari will contribute into unravelling the mystery of "the mark of the beast". I'm a major prophecy freak.

Shlama all--

Still grinning...

This is kind of funny in a way. I have an interesting story to tell all of you. But first, I just wanted to thank several folks for their recent supporting comments about how Paul and I weathered/dealt with recent attacks. It has been very nice hearing from you all, both just now on this forum and in supporting emails. I do not hold any malice, I want you all to know that. There are very few of us Peshitta scholars out there and we can't really afford to be sniping at one another if it can be helped. As I told David B even in my frustration, I have supported his scholarship even in some of the more esoteric areas (codes) more so than many others have. That has not changed. We are bigger than the insults we receive. Master Y'shua demands it as does the Peshitta itself.

Okay, now moving on. As most of you know, a certain Rabbi brought great disgrace upon the Netzarim by advocating perversion. When this happened, I had to literally stop what I was doing and write a rebuttal, the rough draft of which in part appeared on my proofreader Shali's website, <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.therefinersfire.com">http://www.therefinersfire.com</a><!-- m -->.

Without getting into personal details, Shali was a very fierce advocate for me doing this, and I got letters from all over the world from Nazarene and Christian ladies who were thanking me for setting the record straight. The essay went through some more changes and eventually reached final form as a piece called "Basar Echad". I want all of you to know that I really, really struggled with striking the right tone in the piece, trying to keep it less personal and more Scriptural. It had to be one of the hardest things I ever had to write, but through it all Shali was my rock, telling me in very animated language that I was the only person in this moment who could help kill the heresy. So, I persevered, and it got done, and all seemed well....

...but then guess which was the first thing Shali noticed was missing in Mari????

You got it, "Basar Echad"was gone. I thumbed through my copy of Mari for 3 hours and never noticed it was missing. Neither did Baruch, who probably spent twice that time. The essay was simply gone, both it and the subject heading in the appendix. Had Shali not called us on it, one of the most important halachic controversies of the last 20 years would have gone almost un-commented on in Mari! At this moment, having gone through the pdf files Baruch sent me and that Shali proofed, I have no idea how "Basar Echad" dropped out of the text. It was there one moment and gone the next. I must believe this was one more last minute attempt by the enemy to dilute the impact of Mari and it also very nearly succeeded.

Now however, to paraphrase a hymn, it was once lost but now it's found. Now "Basar Echad" is back in Mari, but the natural consequence of that is to make Baruch and I want to understandably take a small amount of time to make sure all is well.

As I write this I am 95% sure that all is absolutely well, but I am giving more weight to the 5% that says otherwise because the reality is I have only one shot to make this the best it can be. Baruch wants to print one more copy and review it this weekend. That means September, sorry to say it but it can't be helped. I am extremely hopeful we are still only 1-2 weeks away, but you guys know me. I am not giving a false delivery date. I cannot take pre pub orders because I will not have it said that I unreasonably delayed folks from getting what they paid for. I did this project in part to show how a Nazarene should do something like this honestly, unlike a certain false teacher and his Horribly Ruined Version...

On the positive side though, Baruch points out:

Shlama Akhi Andrew,Yes I've added Basar Echad to the Appendix and to the list.
Thankfully!!! We've made it under the 1104 page cut off!!! Baruch haShem YHWH!!!
Shali and Bill did a REALLY fine tooth comb of the whole manuscript and have found about 40 minor edits and one biggie, mainly bracket-period inconsistencies. So we're looking good.

Also keep in mind I am non-weight bearing on my knee for another month, so I am not going anywhere when the last thingie hits my inbox! Todah for your continued patience. As you all can see though a project this massive takes a lot of painstaking and detailed loving care to be as good as it can be.

Ah, so Shali your proofreader runs The Refiner's Fire, I've love that site. This polygyny issue is getting rebuked left, right & centre all over the net. Don't worry it won't be long until we, through the power of the Rukha smash it to pieces. Aaliyah Altaf (Simon's soon to be ex-wife) has been very vocal on the subject on Joel Richardson's blog, Joel's Trumpet, I admire her courage. Check out the thread, plenty of "behind the scenes" details have been revealed.

Shlama Khati Christina,

Yes Shali is an amazing lady and a very gifted Nazarene writer. It is also amazing to me how she has taken to the Aramaic NT Primacy movement in a relatively short time. Baruch had only known her about 3 weeks before she offered to help us, and when she did a "re-write" of Mark, it just blew me away. She knew how to keep the words intact yet make for better syntactical flow. For these reasons, though she knows no Aramaic at all, I have often called her my "assistant translator". She has taken my rigid and wooden sounding rough draft and turned it into a thing of beauty. There is no way Mari would read nearly as well as it does without her guiding hand. And all she wants in return is a few free copies...I still can't get over that.

As for Aaliyah, I admire her too. I have been privileged to try to support and strengthen her but she really doesn't need it. The Joel's Trumpet stuff was so laughable that I just didn't want to dignify it with a response other than telling them to read my article again. They never went point for point, only engaging in language about that I am wrong, but they were never able to disprove a single thing I said from Tanakh. As a result, I consider further debate beyond what I already said a total waste of time, especially with what is on my plate right now.

Finally I saw absolutely the most hateful piece of trash ever--Trimm never even approached this level--in Rabbi Moshe's diatribe against Aaliyah. This was such hate speech as I have never seen, telling her to grow up, suck it up, whatever.

I am watching things very carefully, I assure you. People think my relative silence sometimes is because I don't know what is being said about me, Aaliyah and others, but I know it all I have friends all over the world who send me multiple copies of each piece of trash, and I am still on YATI's email list. Others right now are doing a way better job than I would in purging the heresy, but it may very well be YHWH has more for me to do on this score. Time will tell. And by the way, I am kind of disappointed that a certain person who recently argued with me did not, from his Christian credentials, give me any support whatsoever in defending the sanctity of monogamous marraige. I would think that would be one thing we could agree on.
