Can't We Continue the InterLinear translation?
#1
April 18, 2005

With all the talent on this forum, can't we figure out a way to work together to continue the important work of finishing the interlinear NT of the Peshitta? If someone would draft a rough (even incomplete) translation one verse at a time, and post it, others could correct and add to it. Hopefully, Paul would be willing to give this work in progress the benefit of his critical and constructive comments. It might be slow, but wouldn't any effort be worth try?

I think that Paul has been using the Peshitta WORD document found under "Tools" as the Aramaic text. It may differ somewhat from the Eastern text, but that could be corrected since the differences are few.

Only a real native Assyrian Aramaic-speaker can see the subtle nuances and various shades of meaning that lexicon trained people can't. It could never be the same. It must stay as is.

...guess I should not have translated the hundreds of pasages from the Peshitta that I have over the years nor the entire book of Galatians!

What was I thinking since I'm only a Jew? <!-- s8) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/cool.gif" alt="8)" title="Cool" /><!-- s8) -->

Dear Andrew:

Can you post your tranlation of Galations in interlinear form so we can all see it?

How about the first verse of Acts 16?
