Luke 14, verse 13 & 21
#1
Shlama Akhay,

In Luke 14:13 of the KJV we have "the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind" while in verse 21 of the same chapter we have "the poor and the maimed and the halt and the blind"
Why verse 13 of the KJV has 'lame' and verse 21 has 'halt' is curious because the Greek text uses the same exact words in verse 13 as it does in verse 21.
What is interesting is that while the Aramaic text uses the same word for 'poor' in verse 13 as it does in verse 21, the other three words vary between the two verses.
The word 0nksm - meskina - is used in 13 & 21 for 'poor.'
The next word in verse 13 of the Peshitta is 0pygs - segipha - which akhan Paul translates as 'the maimed' in his interlinear.
Well, variety must have been considered 'the spice of life' to Luke because in verse 21 he uses 0b0km - makawa - which Paul translates as 'the afflicted'.
The next word in verse 13 after 'segipha' is 0sygx - khegisa - which Paul translates as 'the lame'.
The word in verse 21 corresponds and yet is a totally different Aramaic word. That word is 0rgxm - mekhagra - which Paul translates as 'the maimed'.
The word after 'khegisa' (the lame), in verse 13, is 0yms - smaya - (the blind).
Another Aramaic word for 'the blind' is used in verse 21.
This word is 0ryw9 - ehoira.

So what we are seeing in the Peshitta Text is some changes in vocabulary between verses 13 and 21 of chapter 14 in Luke. The Greek texts do not follow suit and use ptwcouv , anapjrouv , cwlouv , tuflouv respectively in both verses.

This fits the 'Multiple-Inheritance' category well enough doesn't it? <!-- sSmile --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smile.gif" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /><!-- sSmile -->
