Bush's war on Christians?
#1
The following article has some sentiments not commonly expressed WRT Assyrian Christians and the "war on terror".
Any thoughts anyone.

In fact, the current policies of the Bush administration are threatening to absolutely devastate ancient and pious Christian communities whose blood will be on all our heads. To deal with the subject honestly, it must be acknowledged that it almost appears as if President George Walker Bush were waging a global war against Christians.

There are a tremendous number of facts that could be marshaled to support such a counterintuitive statement, and at least some will be surveyed in this article. However, the primary thrust of this article will be to analyze the policies of the Bush Administration that have placed us on the road to destroying one of the oldest Christian communities in the entire world ??? the Assyrians of Iraq.

I know there's lot of problems over there, and things are going bad for them. But the Assyrian Church of the East, well patriarch Addai beleive was firmly behind the first Gulf War. And called for the Assyrians to join with the uprising that took place after the war. Which was a huge mistake because Bush senior pulled a huge bait and switch, Bay of Pigs maneuver. While he called for a Revolution he was unwilling to actually support it with air cover and other aid.

Anyway in the 15-16 years since that time. That patriarch was in hiding because Sadam had ordered his death. And for the years following, you read on web sites about "Assyrian Genocide" under Sadam etc. Anyway now in this war, we are trying to correct the past mistakes. Admititngly things aren't going right.

But in reality after reading all those web sites in early 2000. I always thought the war was really for them all along. (not why Bush went to war, but why God let the war happen). Anyway, and as my friend pointed out. If they are forced to leave maybe that's God will. Maybe God wants to deal with that country and needs to remove them. Maybe God wants more of a Assyrian influence on the US and the West.

Who knows.

Shlama Akhay,

Well, the information portrayed in that article is not accurate.

First and foremost, President Bush did in fact consult representatives of Assyrian Christians in Iraq and in the U.S.

Mr. Yonadam Kanna, the Assyrian representative on the Iraqi Interim Government, is an Assyrian and appointed directly by Pres. Bush. In fact, President Bush also mentioned the persecution of Assyrians in several speeches, including this one:

President Bush Wrote:America believes that all people are entitled to hope and human rights, to the non-negotiable demands of human dignity. People everywhere prefer freedom to slavery; prosperity to squalor; self-government to the rule of terror and torture. America is a friend to the people of Iraq. Our demands are directed only at the regime that enslaves them and threatens us. When these demands are met, the first and greatest benefit will come to Iraqi men, women and children. The oppression of Kurds, Assyrians, Turkomans, Shi'a, Sunnis and others will be lifted. The long captivity of Iraq will end, and an era of new hope will begin.

And Pat Robertson does indeed care about the plight of the Assyrian Christians. So much so, in fact, that his Christian Broadcast Network sponsored a world-wide day of prayer for them. Their website also helps to promote the Assyrian cause:

http://www.cbn.com/CBNNews/News/030213a.asp

Finally, the author of the article felt justified in speaking out about the aweful murder of the two children by Islamic extremists, and linked to the website http://www.assyrianchristians.com, however he failed to mention that the owner of that website (Rev. Kenneth Joseph, who is in Baghdad) actually supports President Bush and the war to unseat that brutal dictator.

The vast majority of Assyrians both in Iraq and in the U.S., as well as most Iraqis, support President Bush and are happy to be free of the brutal dictator.

Yes, America's Evangelical Christians are very supportive of Israel, as are the vast majority of Assyrian Christians. We would like to also be protected in our homeland....but it's not President Bush's fault that Muslim extremism is on the rise in the area. Our population was decimated....2/3 were killed in 1915-1918 in the great massacre by the Ottoman Turks and Kurds, long before George Bush was even born.

The author of that article is using Christian Assyrians to further his own not-so-hidden political agenda, which is insulting to the memory of those who died and continue to die for their faith.
