Did High Priest Caiaphas violate the law?
#1
Hello Everyone,
We read this in Matthew 26:63-65.

Matthew 26:63-65 (Murdock Translation) - And Jesus was silent. And the high priest answered, and said to him: I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou art the Messiah, the Son of God. Jesus saith to him: Thou hast said. And I say to you, That hereafter ye will see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming on the clouds of heaven. Then the high priest rent his clothes, and said: Behold, he hath blasphemed! Why therefore should we seek for witnesses ? Behold, ye have now heard his blasphemy.

Mark 14:63 (Murdock Translation) - "And the high priest rent his tunic, and said: What need of witnesses have we, any more?"

We read this in Old Testament where Moses telling Aaron and his sons.

Leviticus 10:6 (NIV) - Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons Eleazar and Ithamar, ?Do not let your hair become unkempt* and do not tear your clothes, or you will die and the Lord will be angry with the whole community. But your relatives, all the Israelites, may mourn for those the Lord has destroyed by fire."

*unkempt- Or Do not uncover your heads.

We read this again in Leviticus 21:10.

Leviticus 21:10 (NIV) - "The high priest, the one among his brothers who has had the anointing oil poured on his head and who has been ordained to wear the priestly garments, must not let his hair become unkempt or tear his clothes."

Doesn't this mean that High Priest Caiaphas violated the law.
