I Finished Reading 'The Way Int. Aramaic/English Interlinear

Shlama Brantana,

I took the liberty of copying 2 of Andrew Gabriel Roth's earlier post's here (I hope that is OK Andrew!):

Shlama Akhi Albion,

I am very, very happy about the progress made on Mari/PEACE. Recently I finished the final proofing of the Aramaic, making sure to carefully put back the Eastern readings that have been excised from the 1905 Critical Edition. I have been aided in standardizing the text by the Khabouris transcription done by Stephen Silver and have also consulted the Crawford Codex on his site. Not surprisingly Khabouris for the most part rules the day. 99% of the differences--not getting into the Western 5 although I have put back the best Aramaic readings there too--are simply spelling variants and alternate modes of expression for the same thought. I can verify absolutely that thought by thought the Eastern Peshitta is absolutely 100% consistent and perfect within its collection. Even so, I have annotated fully the major and minor divergences (Peshitta/Peshitto) so as to allow the reader to make up their own mind on both the Aramaic and English sides of the fence.

Similarly, the English translation is 99.99% done but for the occasional footnote that I see fit to add; the base text though is as fixed as the Aramaic is. If there is one thing that I feel really makes this a unique diglot, it is the fact that I truly believe the text I am showing both in translation and in its Aramaic form has not been shown to the world in modern times--certainly not the WESTERN world.

So what remains? Simply put the supplemental materials are still being edited. I need to make sure that the hundreds of extra pages here are not overly redundant to the reader looking at Mari/PEACE as a whole unit. From there we have a few layout issues and bindery matters to tend to. But a final read through of the entire Mari/PEACE text is on track most definitely between right now and the end of January 2008. Once that is done, physical production may take 2-4 months more, hence my estimate of being done by Pesach 2008.

Rest assured that I will break the news of Mari/PEACE's availablility right here on peshitta.org and also I will cut and paste it (the thread will be called A MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT) on Raphael Lataster's site also. I appreciate very much the fact that a lot of folks are waiting for this--and my gratitude is beyond measure that the requests for it have extended well beyond just the Nazarene Messianic community. I am humbled and warmed by the fact that the Peshitta belongs to the whole world and whole world is eager for it.

Thanks for everyone's patience. Believe me when I say that I am as anxious as the rest of you to see it completed. I may have a head start on seeing its form, but not by much.

Shlama Akhi Albion...

I will certainly do my best with Mari/PEACE and appreciate your support. I have taken your advice in the sense that everything else defers to the final production of my translation. We are still on track for Spring 2008 and I can only pray it helps the folks who have been waiting so patiently for it.
