Mar Aphrahat lived near Nineveh, Assyria during 280-367. He was a monastic bishop from the monastery of Mar Mattai near ancient Nineveh.
Keep in mind the years during which he lived when you think of the time-frame that "scholars" usually assign to the Peshitta (5th-century) - in light of the fact that there are direct quotes from the Peshitta in Mar Aphrahat's writings....from the 3rd and 4th centuries! <!-- s
