Does Aramaic have a word for grandfather?

- Paul Younan - 08-22-2004

Shlama Akhi Michael,

Yes, the word is "Sawa" (#13679). It literally means "old/aged" but is used idiomatically to mean "grandfather" and the feminine form "Sawtha" is used for "grandmother."

"Great Grandfather" would be "Sawa Rabba".
