EXCELLENT bible software - Rob - 01-26-2004

Have any of you guys heard of Bibleworks? It's probably the sweetest single bible tool you could ever imagine.

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.bibleworks.com/">http://www.bibleworks.com/</a><!-- m -->

The latest verison contains the PNT, DSS, and the targumim. But most of it is Greek NT/ LXX and Hebrew OT. It has all sorts of cool others though, like the complete works of Josephus and Greek Apostolic Fathers etc. It also allows you to add your own commentaries and translations, so if you wanted to, you could add POT or COE Fathers.

Can't wait to get my own copy <!-- sSmile --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smile.gif" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /><!-- sSmile --> (It is $300).

Sounds nice, but not for people like me who are broke...

Freebies which are good too:

<!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.e-sword.net">http://www.e-sword.net</a><!-- w --> - free and cool

Win Online Bible - free, cheap, but for around 10-20 dollars you can get Lamsa module for it

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.biblegateway.com/">http://www.biblegateway.com/</a><!-- m --> - no downloads, has plenty of English Bibles

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.olivetree.com/bible/">http://www.olivetree.com/bible/</a><!-- m --> - one of the free resources for Greek alex and byz

And dont forget Peshitta.org for the only reliable PNT translation <!-- sWink --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/wink1.gif" alt="Wink" title="Wink" /><!-- sWink -->

POT is free too at CAL...

Not a bad set of Bibles for someone who is broke...

I am broke but I will spend the money to buy it. It's not that it contains so much, but what it does contain is all there for you.

- Gentile - 01-28-2004

Its just a shame that while we have all this, that no one seems to give a toss about the Peshitta Tanakh. Why? People just seem to soley focus on the DSS, MT and LXX. Goodness sake...

- Rob - 01-28-2004

Alot of it has to do with money my goy brother. The time it takes to program and copy the entire bible in any langauge....is no small amount of time. It makes sense to first do what will sell. Greek and vowel pointed Masoretic Hebrew sells.

This is not to say that they won't, but that they haven't yet; (Note that Bibleworks is in version 6 now.) because of the obvious priorities. I imagine now they will get into more intricate biblical documents.

Aramaic Bible software - Zechariah14 - 01-31-2004

Speaking of Bible software, has anyone here used this Aramaic Bible software, and if so, comments?

I want to create my own Bible software. Any idea on how to get Hebrew, Aramaic & Greek texts stored into a database?

- Dave - 02-01-2004

Zech,

I used to have a copy of that aramaic covenant that is used in the software. I would avoid it, it is very generalised and uncertain. Paul's translation here is superb in comparison to it.

- Rob - 06-14-2004

Bibleworks ROCKS!!! Finally broke down and bought it. It has the CAL built right inside! It has the PNT (both Ashuri and estrangela fonts) and PNT English translation. The Targums are good but you have to download Targums Neofiti and Pseudo-Yonatan seperately. Good greek and Hebrew stuff, too.

Otherwise, it's got a ton of neeto things you can do.

I have not used this software but I do know that this Aramaic Bible is not the original. In other words, it is not the Peshitta.

I have this but I wouldn???t call it software. It is basically nothing more than a bunch of PDF files (of a transliterated "Aramaic New Covenant" translation) on a CDrom.
