a slight "error" to your genealogy article Paul - drmlanc - 12-10-2003

""If both St. Matthew and St. Luke give the genealogy of St. Joseph, the one through the lineage of Solomon, the other through that of Nathan - how can the lines converge in Joseph? How can Joseph claim descent from King David, through both Nathan and Solomon?""

The article is awesome, but this I think thismay be omitted. It is no more impossible than the fact that BOTH Selathiel and Zerubabbel claim lingage from BOTH Nathan and Solomon.

Clearly, the Gospel of Matthew gives the geneology of Mary, the natural parent of Jesus. The Joseph mentioned is her father or uncle. The geneology of Luke is that of Joseph. Mary isn't even mentioned.

I agree ograabe with the article, however the point is flawed. The question is asked, "how can the two lines come from David through both Nathan and Solomon". And something similar actually DOES occur, as both Joseph's come from Zerubabel and Selathiel. e.g. it is likely that a woman/en was involved here. Both Joseph's come from different children of Zerubabel/Selathiel

Just a bit of constructive criticism in a difficult topic <!-- sWink --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/wink1.gif" alt="Wink" title="Wink" /><!-- sWink -->

Shlama Akhi Chris,

It's not the same. Zerubabel and Selathiel were not brothers. It's impossible that Joseph would be descended from both sons of David.

Think like this: Zerubabbel and Selathiel as well as Jehoiachin, ALL came from the lineages of Solomon and Nathan, that is why I say that part of the article is slightly flawed.

iow it was not impossible for these 3 figures to descend from both brothers, so it should also not be impossible that one Joseph could also
