The Arabic word for god is Ilah. They say there is no Ilah except Allah. Ilah is the cognate for Alaha. It is spelled the same as Eloah(aleph-lamed-hey) in the Tanakh.

Hi Noordos,

Not quite sure if this is true. There are more words for God in semetic language. One thing is sure, Allah is the ARabic form of Alaha (ARamaic). It means God.
But if a moslim asks you to repeat the main article of their faith and you would say: "There is no Allah but Allah and..." they would ask you to say 'there is no God but Allah' so today, Allah is used as a name.

So, it dosen't mean "there is no God, but God", as the title is tunred into a proper name? Eloah (Hebrew) and Alaha (Aramaic) are never known to have been proper names for God, right?

But, we're getting into the weeds here. <!-- sSmile --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/smile.gif" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /><!-- sSmile -->
