Beth Tslotha - House of Prayer - BrotherLarry - 01-04-2011

Shlama to all,

The phrase "Beth Tslotha -"- (House of Prayer) in Acts 16"13 of the Peshitta Text is matched in 1st Maccabees 3:46 and 3rd Maccabees 7:20. I'm wondering how many more identical twins there are of Aramaic words from books not accepted in the Protestant Canon.

Shlama,

I made a mistake. Instead of Beth Tslotha for "house of prayer" in the Maccabees that should be Beth Tephila. Another Semitic usage would be Beth Ha-Keneseth (House of Assembly). The word "synagogue" is of Greek origin but widely accepted as we all know.
