Announcement! We're Revamping! Everyone Please Read! - Christina - 09-26-2008

Shlama to you all of you,

Akhan Paul has informed me that he wants to revamp Peshitta.org, and make it more "interactive". Paul has suggested creating a blog, with the aim to "catholicize" the Peshitta, to which I wholeheartedly agree!

So what do we need from you? Ideas, ideas, ideas! We wanna make the new Peshitta.org as accessible, informative and enjoying as possible.

Objective:

*To present the original words of Mesheikha and His apostles to world
*To preserve the Aramaic language
*To expose the truth about Greek primacy
*To encourage unity between the assemblies of Mesheikha
*To reach out to the lost, in accordance with the Great Commission by allowing the Peshitta to speak for itself
*To defend our faith in Mesheikha and the word of Alaha

We plan to represent as many denominations as possible and reach out to as many of the lost as possible. I've roughly divided our target audience into the following groups:

#1 Aramaic Assemblies (COE, SOC, Maronites, Chaldeans & Mar Thoma Nasrani)
#2 Jews & Nazarene
#3 "Greco-Roman" Christianity (Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Oriental Orthodox, Protestants, ect.)
#4 Muslims
#5 Academia (Scholars, Historians, Textual Critics, Translators, ect.)

What would you like to see on the new Peshitta.org? What features do you suggest for the new site, blog & forum, and how should we serve the masses? How would you like to be involved and what would you like to contribute?

Let's talk about it.

Shlama,
Christina.

Re: Announcement! We're Revamping! Everyone Please Read! - aramaic_albion - 09-26-2008

Dear Christina,

I think having a kind of glossary of Aramaic-to-English words, would be a very good idea.

I realize that this would be quite an undertaking.......(pardon the pun lol) but I think that it would be an extremely well used section!

I LOVE the idea of a blog section!

You'll pardon me if I enter into a theological area here, but how about a section detailing how the great men and women of the Aramaic speaking Churches used various Aramaic prayers to put the evil one, and his minions to flight.........a section on Aramaic, and spiritual warfare, in other words.

I personally think that the USA, and perhaps the whole world, is entering into an extremely difficult time economically, and otherwise............

I (personally) think that it's the beginning of The End of Days, and if that turns out to BE TRUE, this could be a very useful section for EVERYONE here on the Forum!!

And lastly, I think that those who feel comfortable talking about their own spiritual paths to this moment, might like to do a sort of spiritual autobiography of their lives.

I know that some of these ideas sound a bit peculiar, but I honestly think that they would be well used by every member of the Forum!

That's my two pence worth, anyway!

Shlama, Albion

Hello Christina and Forum,

Quote:What would you like to see on the new Peshitta.org? What features do you suggest for the new site, blog & forum, and how should we serve the masses?How would you like to be involved and what would you like to contribute

Well, since I am not very skilled in the teological and religious area, my sugestions are more about the aramaic language and history:

1) I think that Paul's Interlinear deserve more visibility.

2) A category, or thread, or topic, whatever, where we can post links, materials, books, articles, etc founded over the internet related to aramaic language, peshitta, etc. You know, just to keep in one place this kind of stuff, not spreaded over the forum. A categorization could be:
-> learn aramaic: grammars, lexicons, dictionaries, etc (there is a lot of free downloads at archive.org)
-> books in aramaic
-> bible study
-> manuscripts
-> syriac writers
-> church fathers
-> etc

3) A "who is who" in the aramaic culture (e.g. syriac writers).

4) A basic glossary.

5) Maybe more graphical stuff?? For example maps (a map of Middle East in the time of Jesus would be nice ), artwork, iconography or symbols, etc.... related to aramaic language and culture.

That is what I can remember for now.

Shlama

Fantastic both of you! Keep the ideas coming! What do you suggest for media (audio, video, images)? What would you like to see, hear & download? And what do you think of the slogan akhan Ryan coined on one the threads: "The Artery of Aramaic New Testament Scholarship"?

Re: Announcement! We're Revamping! Everyone Please Read! - aramaic_albion - 09-26-2008

I CAN'T download ANYTHING, you already know why.

I DID download the Aramaic Fonts that Lars sent me a little while ago, but have had to reformat our PC since, and now I run a "live disk" that runs off the RAM of the machine.

But I do LOVE Ryan's slogan: "THE ARTERY OF ARAMAIC NEW TESTAMENT SCHOLARSHIP".

I say by all means, USE IT!!

YOU GO RYAN!

Your Bro, Albion

Another thing I was thinking of: I have a parallel gospels module in my e-sword program, and I was thinking of compiling a modern "Diatessaron" with akhan Paul's gospels. I would love to create this and then perhaps get it translated into as a many languages as possible, especially for the Muslim readers, sort of an introductory injeel. What you guys think of that? Akhan Paul are you game?

An EXCELLANT idea Christina!!

Actually, I would like to hear ARAMAIC. I think audio files of excerpts from Peshitta is a good idea.

BTW:

I can contribute with transcriptions of aramaic texts into eletronic format. For example, I am working now in a transcription of the aramic text of The Odes Of Solomon, for my personal use. Just will need some check by aramaic experts after done.

Shlama akhi,

I think that Phil has an EXCELLANT IDEA!!

I really miss the OLD 'Assyrian Language' website!

Where you could HEAR the language!

Phil's idea needs to be implemented!!

If we could have a "word and sound" websight right here at Peshitta.org, it would go over in a BIG WAY!

And I personally think that it would draw even MORE new members!!

Thanks for thinking of this Phil, it's (in my opinion) THE BEST IDEA YET!

Shlama Albion & Phil,

Phil, fantastic, collect as many texts/transcriptions as possible, and slowly we can build a public domain archive, the sky's the limit really, eventually we plan to turn this place into a tool for translation projects & Bible study. As for the audio files, I know akhan Paul will be game for this. Thanks again, and we're just getting started!

An Aramaic Diatesseron made from the Peshitta? Are you gonna make an "Address to the Greeks" next?

Awesome idea, I am all for it. Actually everyone's ideas so far have been fantastic.

First things first, the blog is going to be up shortly - and Christina I'll be relying on you to hand-pick the appropriate candidates for each category. There are certain people here I feel you know have the writing skills necessary to captivate an audience (ahem, yourself and Ryan and Andrew for starters!)

I will keep everyone posted as to when the blogosphere will be up and running.

Peshitta.org will be going Web 2.0 soon....

Christina Wrote:As for the audio files, I know akhan Paul will be game for this.

Audio of me? Seriously, have you seen my Semitic nose? I look like I'm perpetually eating a banana. Baby pelicans follow me around. All head shots of me are required to be in panoramic view. I can crack seeds with this thing. If I turn around abruptly, you'd best move out of the way. I had two birth certificates.

I mean seriously, church attendance has dropped noticeably since I've been ordained, due to my voice - and you want ME to vocalize this?

PS - OK, I'm game.

Re: Announcement! We're Revamping! Everyone Please Read! - judge - 09-27-2008

Great idea. I think (for what it's worth) that we should as far as possible avoid pushing any particular theology. Just stick to the facts. It is too easy for people to get caught up or to get turned off by differing theology.

Akhi Paul , to me , has done an excellent job of this over the years. He has avoided controversy as much as he could whilst at the same time been able to answer questions about Aramaic and COE stuff in a way that has been extremely enlightening (for me anyway).

Re: Announcement! We're Revamping! Everyone Please Read! - abudar2000 - 09-27-2008

shlom lekh Christina,

-I personally think a higher priority should be given to creating an area where the different types of Peshitta proofs are presented (similar to the divisions of the forum) in well formatted documents.
This will help new people coming to this forum to quickly adjust.
-We should have a library of links for supporting documents (i.e. links to documents available online, and names of documents that aren't online and where to find them.)
-Like Judge has mentioned, I like the approach that Paul has taken over the years.

Re: Announcement! We're Revamping! Everyone Please Read! - ThesameWord - 09-27-2008

Shlama Christina, and Forum friends,

Last night I woke up at 4:22 AM to go to the restroom and I realized that when I woke up I was dreaming about Peshitta.org Forum.

I also remembered an interview that I heard on National Public Radio with the wife of an Orthodox Christian Priest and how wonderful it was to hear about she and her husbands idea's about (Orthodox) Christian Spirituality.

Then it came to me that a lot of people here have never heard the VOICE of some of our most important members; Andrew Gabriel Roth, Paul Younan, and Ryan (Amstyah), Christina, and others.

I have had the pleasure to speak with three of these members, but others here have NEVER EVEN HEARD THEIR VOICES.

Wouldn't it be kool to have audio files, and maybe video files if possible, of these, and other important members, of Peshitta.org??

It would kinda of be like NPR, and the interview that I heard.

I realize that this is sort of like another member's idea, so I don't want to be 'stealing' ideas, but I just realized that how important is to actually HEAR someone speak.

If it's possible, I think that this idea should also be made to happen, with audio files of some of our most illustrious members actually speaking about themselves and their work here at the Forum!

What do ya think??

Shlama all! Albion
