Re: translate "Israel" into Aramaic.... - gbausc - 05-29-2008 lyrsy0 Estrangela lyrsy' Ashuri lyrsy) Dead Sea Scroll script (100 BC) lyrsy) Pesher Habakkuk Dead Sea Scroll (4 BC) ZRmfRA Eastern Nestorian lirsia Western Serto The above is the most common spelling (91% in Peshitta OT; -88% in 1905 critical Peshitto NT); occasionally the 7 letter form occurs:ly'rsy' Ashuri (10% of the time in The Peshitta OT and 9% in the 1905 critical Peshitto NT. Very rarely in the Peshitta OT and the 1905 critical Peshitto NT, lyrsy (Ashuri) occurs (5 letters) -about 1% - 3% of the time. Interestingly, The Eastern Peshitta NT has the short form lyrsy 100% of the time! It occurs 74 times therein. The Western 1905 critical Peshitto has "Israel" a total of 77 times. Blessings, Dave |
