I would love to create this and then perhaps get it translated into as a many languages as possible, especially for the Muslim readers, sort of an introductory injeel. What you guys think of that? Akhan Paul are you game? Muhaha! Hmm...maybe I should make an "Address to the Greeks" Paul Younan Wrote:Awesome idea, I am all for it. Actually everyone's ideas so far have been fantastic. Ok, here's the thing with that: what needs to noted are 2 factors: 1) expertise & focus; 2) time & resources. For example while akhan Andrew is all for this idea, he's concerned that he won't always have time to be around, so I think it would be better to divide the sections of the blog between groups of 2 or 3 as opposed to individuals, that way we'll "have each other's backs", someone will always be there in case one of us can't be. Also Yeshua did send His disciples out two by two. And of course depending on who accepts the invitations, but here are my nominations, based on traffic (most frequent visits to this forum): You, Andrew, Ryan, Rafa, Keefa (Abudar), Stephen, Otto, Albion & myself. Alright fellow nominees here are the 5 five proposed sections of the blog: *Aramaic Churches *Jews & Nazarenes *Mainstream/Western Churches *Muslims *Academics Which section will you spend most of your time, and what topics are you the most versed in? What ideas do you have to carry out our object (in post #1) and who can you to appoint (among the members of this forum) to assist you with speaking to visitors of the blog. Akhan Paul do you need assistants with maintaining the blog? I.e. web developers, translators or programmers? If yes, can anyone here assist akhan Paul with these things, or have friends who would be interested in helping out? Seriously, my bridge is noticeably high, kinda like a camel's hump! Put it this way, I'm a Greek woman but I have the nose of a Greek man! Honestly if you saw me you'd swear I'm Turk, hehehe!Paul Younan Wrote:I mean seriously, church attendance has dropped noticeably since I've been ordained, due to my voice - and you want ME to vocalize this? If you're game, sure do the audio files but you don't have to. The point is to get Peshitta readings in audio, get someone in your church choir to do them, if you think you sound that bad, but I don't know I've never heard you speak, LOL. And that brings me to: ThesameWord Wrote:Then it came to me that a lot of people here have never heard the VOICE of some of our most important members; Andrew Gabriel Roth, Paul Younan, and Ryan (Amstyah), Christina, and others. Now that's what I call "interactive". If you got Skype or Messenger I'll ring you and you can hear my voice if you like . My voice is not the most pleasant sounding though I every American I've ever met tells me that I have a cool accent. When I was in Athens I attended a Bible study group with lots of Americans and they always wanted me to read the Bible aloud. Re: Announcement! We're Revamping! Everyone Please Read! - aramaic_albion - 09-28-2008 Dear Christina, I'd Love to hear your voice, but alas, ALL of the "messenger" programs open up one's computer to letting "outsiders" get *inside* one's computer. My wife Sandy, had to even stop using Instant Messenger to talk to her own children, some of whom, live far away. I would say more, but it would just get deleted, if I did. My Dad was a Brit. I found out from my daughter Kerri, that I could have been a Brit, years ago, because my Dad was an immigrant to America. It only requires 3 pieces of pertinent information, and BOOM! I could instantly become a British Citizen, because of my Dad. I might have done that back in my 20's, but I'm 56 now, and that's too old for that kind of change! Interestingly, people have always said that I should work in radio, because I supposedly, have a "radio voice". I ended up driving professionally most of my life instead. You name it, and I've driven it! Maybe you can post an audio file, so we can ALL hear you, instead! Shlama, Albion Re: Announcement! We're Revamping! I think we've also got to add a few more moderators to make sure topics stay in focus here. +Shamasha Re: Announcement! We're Revamping! Everyone Please Read! - *Albion* - 09-30-2008 You know, I used live out in New Mexico, and out there, when one was trying to BE POLITE they would say: "You've got A LOT OF HUEVOS". Some times, this IS NOT MEANT AS A COMPLIMENT!. Now of course, this will get DELETED, but it sure needed to be said! Albion Stephen Silver Wrote:Shlama Shamasha Paul: Re: Announcement! Glad that you approve of my choices. As for finances I sent you an email about that so check out when you got a chance. BTW I see you deleted the Mari announcement thread. It's unfortunate what happened, but is there anyway we can retrieve the announcement itself? It's just a shame the akhan Andrew's announcement & link to the Mari site is gone, can you PM/email me about this when you got a chance? Let me know what you want to do. Re: Announcement! We're Revamping! Everyone Please Read! - Paul Younan - 09-30-2008 Akhi Albion, You create a lot of posts where you end with "this will surely get deleted", etc. If you know before you hit the "post" button that the post will be deleted, why do you do it? Are you intentionally trying to test me and see what you can get away with? Unfortunately, your demeanor as of late has been such that you are giving me the impression that it is your intention to purposely violate the rules of the forum, keep distracting the rest of us from our work, alienate potential visitors and basically test the limits of my patience. I have had to privately and publicly reprimand you on more than one occasion, but it does not seem to me to be having a positive effect on your behavior. For someone who claims to love this website and forum so much, you are not helping at all. I am asking you for one final time, as a brother in Meshikha - please respect the rules I have put into place on this forum. Before you hit that submit button, if the thought is already in your head that a delete might happen, don't bother pressing the submit button. I have never banned anyone from the forum, and I don't intend to do so. But I do not have the time to babysit every single post you and anyone else makes. If you intentionally disregard this umpteenth request I have made, you will suddenly find yourself on my "foe" list - and that's not a long list. I hope I've finally made myself clear. +Shamasha Paul Re: Announcement! We're Revamping! Everyone Please Read! - Paul Younan - 09-30-2008 Stephen Silver Wrote:Shlama Shamasha Paul: Shlama Akhi Stephen, I need trustworthy moderators, especially seasoned Peshitta.org participants such as yourself, to become moderators along with me. People like Christina and yourself and Ryan, who are willing to wield the "delete" sword, and the "ban" dagger, if necessary. This thing has got to stay on focus. And if that means you delete a post that I personally make, so be it. I can be guilty of straying just as much as the next guy. It's just some abuse the leniency here. +Shamasha Re: Announcement! We're Revamping! Everyone Please Read! - Christina - 09-30-2008 Shlama akhi Paul, You know that you'll always have my support, my loyalty is first and foremost to you. You were the first person here to ask to work with me and therefore, I will put you first. Give me a shout anytime, you want me to do anything, and I'll help anyway I can. I'll be happy to be one of the moderators for Peshitta.org. In HIM, Christina. Re: Announcement! We're Revamping! The requirements for this job are fanatical patience, spiritual discernment and cold resolve that rivals the Godfather. Pulling the plug on an offending topic or wayward thread must be decisive. It takes discernment and a patient spirit to know when and why to pull the plug. I look forward to working together with you Paul, Christina and Ryan. Some topics come very close to the edge without actually violating forum rules. You can see that the participants are in a heated exchange but it's a cohesive and intelligent exchange so... "let it ride"! Off topic subjects need to be corrected quickly before they become a distraction. Sometimes the topic finds its way back on the rails all by itself. Other times it needs gentle coaxing. Other times a warning or short decisive rebuke. The last resort is a ban. What thinkest thou? 1 week, 1 month, forever. Nevertheless, the purpose of moderators is to streamline the forum topics. This saves server space and makes referrencing of any topic much easier. It's not possible to always be squeaky clean but that is the aim. I'm willing to give it a go. Shlama, Stephen Re: Announcement! We're Revamping! Everyone Please Read! - Mike Kar - 10-09-2008 Hello, I must admit this before I mention anything else: I have not read all the posts to this thread. But here is my 2cents. And I know I am new to this list. But how about a chat room. During the evening it would be an opportune time to discuss things and "cut through alot of fat" in shorter durations of time because we would be conversing right there. Just a thought. Maybe in the future or maybe a little down the road. STill, the forum boards are very good anyhow because the replies allow you to "think through" the answers. Kindly, Mike Re: Announcement! That's just my personal opinion. Shlama, Stephen Re: Announcement! We're Revamping! Everyone Please Read! - Thirdwoe - 10-10-2008 ... Hearing Aramaic spoken with the English transliterations, translations and the Aramaic text viewable would be very helpful in learning the language, which is the desired goal of many here...could we have a section set up like that to this end? ... |
